CPhI Worldwide 2011, world's largest pharma ingredients gathering for the global pharma community, will take place at  Messe Frankfurt, Germany from October  25 to 27 with a number of novel  as well as  returning features.

With its unique  scale and international audience CPhI Worldwide 2011, unrivalled networking and business event , is expected to see about 1800 exhibitors  and is   projected to break attendance records with more than 29,000 industry professionals  from 140 countries.

CPhI had an  exceptional growth considering the fact that it  debuted in 1990 in Frankfurt as a small international convention for ingredients and intermediates, with only 16 exhibitors and 250 delegates.

The event has been held annually ever since. CPhI has visited many European cities over the years including Amsterdam, Belgium, London, Madrid, Milan and Paris.

With Germany being one of the leading pharmaceutical markets in Europe,  it is a fitting setting for a pharmaceutical event. Germany is the fourth largest pharmaceutical market in the world behind the USA, Japan and China and the largest pharmaceutical market throughout Europe.

For more than 20 years CPhI Worldwide has been the world's leading pharmaceutical ingredients exhibition by providing unequalled business and networking opportunities. Each year the exhibition grows larger with exhibitors and visitors doing  significant levels of business at CPhI. Three sister events,ICSE for contract and outsourced services and logistics, P-MEC for pharmaceutical technology and machinery and BioPh -Biosolutions for pharma now run alongside CPhI, a quadripartite of events that is considered as the most important event in the pharmaceutical manufacturing calendar. The newest event to  join the line-up InnoPack show for innovative packaging solutions has added sheen to the events portfolio. Thus now it has become a must event for any individual or organization within the pharmaceutical manufacturing community.

According to Annemieke Timmers  Global Brand Director for UBM Live, the event organizer “There are many new and returning features which have been developed to maximise visitor potential during the show. Newly introduced features include Lunch Time Learning Sessions, the stand-alone InnoPack event and the LABWorld Pavilion within P-MEC Europe. The Lunchtime Education Series offer three days with two interactive sessions and a lunchtime networking session each day to address some of the key issues and trends currently affecting the pharma market and feature a lunch networking session. The debut of InnoPack offers innovative resources for more sophisticated and varied pharmaceutical packaging and delivery methods. Finally, the LABWorld Pavilion has been introduced to offer resources for high technology areas such as instrumental analysis, measuring and testing technologies, materials testing, quality control and laboratory equipment”.

Returning features include the Pre-Show Conference Series, one day before the events open on October 24, which is formatted as two strategic forums aimed at understanding how the pharma industry can take advantage of new market developments and drive future competitive advantage in global sourcing and contracting. Also making a return are the popular CPhI Innovation Awards that celebrate new, innovative and commercially scalable technologies and an expansion of the successful Zoning format which was introduced in 2010.

“Over 29,000 visitors are expected, which is phenomenal. Our visitor profile remains diverse and you see a clear reflection of the global nature of the events. Beyond the global diversity, we also have an exceptional cross-section of visitors with unique needs across the specialised pharma sectors” , she adds.

Says Annemieke Timmers “As an events organiser, we have a unique perspective on the market. The full line-up of events, including the flagship CPhI Worldwide for pharmaceutical ingredients, and co-located events ICSE for contract and outsourced services and logistics, P-MEC for pharmaceutical technology and machinery and the new InnoPack event for pharmaceutical packaging needs, have shown strength despite the downturn the market experienced over the last few years. Last year in Paris was a record year, and we have once again seen an upswing in numbers for 2011. There have been some rough times, but companies in this market are learning to become more fluid and flexible in order to answer the changing demands of end users. A great example of this is the growth seen in the ICSE event which indicates the fact that many of the major pharma companies are cutting back on internal manufacturing and finding growth through consolidation and specialisation strategies. The industry is learning how to effectively partner and outsource to continue growth.”

“ In 2011, it is great to see that exhibitor numbers have grown across the board for all of the events which mirrors the upturn in the market,” says Greg Kerwin, Pharma Portfolio Director for UBM Live.

The Pre-Show Conference Series returns to the events on October 24  formatted as two strategic forums aimed at understanding how the pharma industry can take advantage of new market developments and drive future competitive advantage in global sourcing and contracting. The Series offers a cross-section of global knowledge where attendees will benefit from learning and networking with over 350 distinguished industry peers and influential thinkers. The high-level speaker line-up includes Kristof Szent-Ivanyi, Director Global Bulk Sales, GlaxoSmithKline, Thomas Niemeyer, Global External Supply Lead, Pfizer and Hairong Zhou, SMPS Sourcing, Genentech, Roche who will address key market topics including sourcing and partnership strategies, future projections for the Pharma industry, growth in a diverse market and emerging product technology implications.

Other returning features for 2011 include an expanded Zoning format and the CPhI Innovation Awards. The Zoning, introduced at last year’s events in Paris to further facilitate the ‘more talking, less walking’ mantra and to ease attendee navigation of the event, has been expanded as a result of the positive feedback it received. Two new zones, the Generic APIs and Finished Dosage zones, will be hosted within CPhI, while ICSE will offer three new zones for New Exhibitors, USA Exhibitors, and Logistics and Supply Chain.

The CPhI Innovation Awards return to celebrate companies across the industry which have pioneered new and innovative commercially scalable technologies. The entries were submitted in an expanded range of categories to complement the expanded Zoning format and the six selected finalists will make presentations on October 25 between 10. and 12.50 on booth 51D02.

Organised by CPhI Conferences, the Lunchtime Education Series will run in a workshop format with six interactive sessions over the three days of co-located exhibitions CPhI Worldwide for pharmaceutical ingredients, ICSE for contract and outsourced services and logistics, P-MEC for pharmaceutical technology and machinery and the new InnoPack show for pharmaceutical packaging needs.

In the last decade, CPhI has expanded its global reach by initiating events in China (2001), Japan (2002), India (2006) and South America (2008). In particular, the Indian and Chinese events are growing fast, which is a testimony to the growing significance of the pharma industries in these developing markets.

CPhI Worldwide and collocated events will be hosted in Madrid, Spain in 2012. The events will run from October 9-11 , 2012 at the Feria de Madrid following previous successful staging of the events in Madrid in 2005 and 2009.
