HealthCare Global Enterprises Ltd (HCG) has installed the Varian TrueBeam technology and Siemens PreScision Artiste technology which will offer economies of scale in terms of treatment time and sans side effects to control the healthcare costs for the patients.
The radiotherapy systems: TrueBeam and PreScision Artiste use a completely re-engineered control system with a multitude of technical innovations to dynamically synchronize imaging, patient positioning, motion management, and treatment delivery.
Radiotherapy can be used for treatment of all cancers. The total treatment time can be drastically cut down with new technology and this increases the patient’s compliance to treatment. Due to integration and speed of imaging, methods in the process of the treatment delivery are with high precision. It reduces the side effects because it increases the protection of normal tissue and treatment efficiency on the tumour as the intensity of the radiation is modulated. The treatment is safe and is advised for all ages of patients, stages of cancer and types tumour. In fact, it has been recommended as advantageous for patients who are not considered as appropriate for surgery because of advanced age, stated Dr B S Ajaikumar, chairman, HCG.

The key advantages of the novel technology are that it is more precise and performs irradiation hitting treatment focus better. It provides a higher performance treatment process and reduces the number of sessions. In addition, it is a technology offering both radiotherapy and radio-surgery options integrated on the same platform in a more convenient way for the patient.
Due to reduced toxicity, chemotherapy can be safely given with radiation without breaks thereby enhancing radiation effect where organ preservation is of prime importance. In addition, the new generation fully digital Linac with Rapidarc treatments allow treatment to be faster thereby adding to patient's comfort, stated Dr. Kumar Swamy, consultant,rRadiation oncologist, HCG.
Both PreScision Artiste and TrueBeam are specifically unique in delivering radio therapy for its precision. Integrated imaging allows respiratory gated treatments which involves tumour tracking of mobile tumours which move with respiration in lung cancer cases, thereby reducing acute toxicity and brings out maximal therapeutic gain. It offers more convenience for the patient by shortening treatment time, informed Dr Swamy.
