Started in the year 2004, the event has brought in better and innovative aspects to its fold every passing year. Since its inception the event has been a great success and could attract huge investments to the pharma and biotech sectors which have helped in the tremendous growth of these sectors. This in turn could pep up pharma exports to the international markets. Thus the event could not only catalyze the pharma industry but also could help build new partnerships by enabling stake-holders to come together on one plat form.

The government of Andhra Pradesh has played a key role in organizing this prestigious event. It took a few decades for the Andhra government to develop the pharma and biotech industry in the state.  As part of promoting the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors both at the national and the international level, initially, the state government organized national level events and conferences. With the successes of these events, the government extended this to Asian and global levels in the subsequent years.

Taking this vision forward, the government had already set up three world renowned pharma and biotech parks viz., Alexandria Park, the ICICI Knowledge Park and the Jawaharlal Nehru Biotechnology Park in the state. Over the years the government’s efforts have helped to rev up the pharmaceutical industry in the state.

This year too, on behalf of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the BioAsia is being organized by the Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) in association with the Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil), Government of India and University of Hyderabad.

According to Dr K V Raghavan, vice president, Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) & Former Director, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), “We are providing a forum for all of pharma and biotech fraternity across the world to meet at this event. Apart from this we do have government experts from all the streams. The main focus this time is on bio pharmaceuticals, vaccines, bio products, oil seeds, bio informatics, etc. The other major agenda of the event is to organize lectures, panel discussions, group interactions and exhibitions.”

The main subject topics of the discussion at the event will be research, development & industry growth. The exhibition pavilion at the event is expected to hold 150 stalls. Here different segment of products in various fields will be displayed. The entire event is supported via the funding of Andhra Pradesh. Government.

As a part of the event, a global buyer-seller meet is also being organized. “We are organizing a global business meet to strengthen the bio pharma exports. About 45 leading delegates from all over the world are expected to take part in the event. A major highlight is discussions on vaccine policy and investments in the sector. A CEOs (chief executives officers) conclave will also be organized on the sidelines of the event,” said Dr.P.V.Appaji, executive director of Pharmexcil.

Today the Indian bio pharma industry is scaling new heights in tandem with the growth and progress globally. India is counted among the top 12 global biotech hotspots and is the third largest in Asia pacific in terms of number of biotech companies. Bio pharma remains the largest contributor to the sector. Diagnostics, vaccines and recombinant therapeutic proteins are the three main segments in bio pharma industry, he added.

The government of Andhra Pradesh has already built state of art biotechnology parks, chemical industry and pharmaceutical industry in the state. Many biotechnology and pharma industry are foraying into newer areas of research and drug development.
