The Chennai-based Micro Therapeutic Research Labs (MTR), which has already achieved  national and international accreditations for their services to domestic and foreign pharmaceutical companies, has launched its preclinical and analytical research facility at Padi near Chennai, offering an array of services to pharma and biotech industries.

The branches of MTR working in two locations in Chennai and Coimbatore are mostly designed to meet the specific requirements of pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies, but the Padi facility will complement the full range of clinical research services to global as well as domestic companies in the sector, N Sundar, the chief operating officer of the Labs told Pharmabiz.

In an interview with Pharmabiz, the COO said the MTR Labs have so far conducted 700 studies on all categories of medicines, and offer services to top Indian and international companies across the globe. The services being offered include bio-availability & bio-equivalence, diagnostics, pre-clinical research, clinical trials, bio-analytical, analytical research, clinical data management and pharmacovigilance.

To a question he said products of major companies like Zydus Cadila, Edict Pharmaceuticals, Lupin Research Limited, Sun Pharmaceuticals, etc have received approvals from US FDA and UK MHRA based on his company’s study. While maintaining confidentiality over the names of drugs for which the Lab has conducted study, Sundar said his company’s study comprises the three phases of clinical trials.

“Our predominant area of business is BA/BE studies. We are doing it for international companies. All the major pharma companies in India are our clients,” he said adding that  the Lab is yet to conduct any study subjected to new research molecules or new applications of existing molecules.

When asked whether MTR has its own hospital facility for conducting clinical studies, the COO said the Labs have not set up any hospital facility to conduct clinical trials and bio-studies, but tied up with some major hospitals in India for the purpose. The Lab has got regulatory approvals from DCGI, NABL, ISO 10015, US FDA, ANVISA, AFSSAPS, CAP and recently audited by WHO.

The scientist, M Ganesan, the promoter of the Labs, started the company way back in 2005 with a view to establish one healthcare research industry in Chennai to support the society to avail quality medicines, Sundar told Pharmabiz.
