Merck net profit marginally up at Rs. 63.68 cr in 2011

Merck Ltd, a part of Merck KGaA of Germany, has maintained its net profit level at Rs. 63.68 crore during the year ended December 2011 as against Rs. 63.18 crore in the previous year due to modification in accounting provision. It modified the Oxynex plant assets and commenced manufacturing alternate product. Consequently, the company reversed provision for impairment loss of Rs. 14.28 crore on the said Oxynex plant assets on account of reversed estimated value in use. This has been considered in the results of chemicals segment. The profit before this adjustment was lower at Rs. 81.30 crore as compared to Rs. 109.99 crore in the previous year.

Its net sales improved by 9.6 per cent to Rs. 557.75 crore from Rs. 509.08 crore. Its pharmaceutical sales increased by 7.2 per cent to Rs. 389.47 crore from Rs. 363.37 crore and contributed almost 70 per cent of its net sales. The sales of chemical division improved to Rs. 183.36 crore from Rs. 163.68 crore.
The company management did not declared any dividend for the year 2011 as it paid hefty dividend of 950 per cent for the year ended December 2010.
