Chaitanya Prasad takes over the charge of Controller General of Patents today

Chaitanya Prasad today took over the charges as the new Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademark. He succeeds PH Kurian for a period of three years from the date of assumption of the charge of post. Prior to taking charge as the Controller General n of Patents, Prasad was working with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) as joint secretary since July 2010.

He will be taking over this position from Kurian who had played a very instrumental role in the Patents history of the country, by issuing the country's first compulsory license to Natco to make Nexavar drug. Kurian is slated to return to Kerala as he is an IAS officer from the state and is expected to head one of the many government departments in Kerala as secretary.

Chaitanya Prasad is a 1990 batch IAS officer from Bihar.
