The Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry has advised all the stake holders in the pharma sector to promote the ‘Brand India logo’ and spread the message globally in all possible ways like website, letter heads, visiting cards, tertiary packaging of export consignments, other publishing material of the company etc., to promote India as the world pharmacy for affordable quality medicines.
As a part of its efforts to promote Indian pharma industry in the international markets, the Ministry of Commerce, has designed a special logo called ‘Brand India pharma’ which is expected to give a big fillip to the pharma sector. The main objective of the Brand India Pharma campaign is to create a consciousness about Indian pharma industry as a whole in the minds of overseas buyers and also to create an image that Indian pharma means excellent quality at affordable prices.
Today as India’s exports from the drugs and pharmaceutical sector accounts for nearly more than Rs.60,000 crore, it contributes more than five per cent to the national exchequer. While recognizing the strengths of the Indian pharmaceutical industry, Government of India has also realized the challenges faced by the industry in international markets in increasing and sustaining the growth of the sunrise industry. In view of this, the government has decided to create brand India image for the pharma industry to accelerate the growth.
“In fact, the Brand India pharma project was launched during CPhI Japan on March 21, 2012 by Dr Rahul Khullar, secretary, Department of Commerce. This has been followed up at CPhI SEA (South East Asia) and we will also continue with Brand India logo at CPhI World Wide in a big way, where Pharmexcil has been sanctioned to organize its first India Show,” said Dr P V Appaji, DG, Pharmexcil.
“We have been instructed by the commerce ministry to advise all our members to promote the Brand India logo on the letter-heads, stationery etc. If they are already printed the members may print stickers of the Brand India logo and affix the same,” added Appaji.
The Central government is also taking steps to ensure that the Brand India Pharma Logo to be affixed by the concerned Government Departments.
