The first issue of International Journal of Chemistry (IJC), published by the International Book House is dedicated to Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, father of modern Indian Chemistry who not only laid the foundation of chemical education and research in India but is also revered as the founder of the Indian chemical industry.

The year 2011 was celebrated as the 150th Birth Anniversary of Acharya Ray which by coincidence also happened to be the "International Year of Chemistry" as declared by IUPAC and UNESCO.

Prof Gurunath Mukherjee who has adorned the  Sir Rashbehary Ghosh Professorship of Chemistry at University of Calcutta has written a special article  as a tribute to the life and contributions of Sir P C Ray in this issue.

IJC , a quarterly, is a peer reviewed journal of chemistry with an editorial board comprising experts and scholars in the chemical sciences. It publishes full length research papers, short communications, review articles and book reviews covering all areas of chemistry including environmental chemistry.

The inaugural issue (IJC Vol.1(1)- January-March 2012) carries  a number of  quality research papers such as “Synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles in viscous solvents: A y-radiolytic study” by Bharti, Sudhir Kapoor and Tulsi Mukherjee; “On-line capillary flow system for the selective determination of glucose via two-step  immobilized enzymatic reactions”by Lee Wah Lim, Yoshitaka Nakashima, Toyohide Takeuchi; “Solvent extraction Separation of Zinc(II) by Acetyl Derivative of Calix(6)Arene  by  Yogita S Thakare, Dipalee D Malkhede, Shripad M.
