Pharmexcil organises one-day seminar on IPR & regulatory matters in Ahmedabad

The IPR & Regulatory Centre of the Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) organized an awareness programme on ‘IPR & Regulatory Matters in Pharmaceutical Sector’ in Ahmedabad last week.

The programme was the fourth of its kind organized by Pharmexcil in the current financial year with the support of department of pharmaceuticals (DoP), Government of India.

Dr P V Appaji, the Director General of Pharmexcil said the one-day seminar discussed topics on introduction of Intellectual Property Rights, Patent Prior-Art Search (Orbit), Patent Application Filings at national and international levels, WHO-GMP/ICH guidelines and drugs which are not patentable.

He said as per the twelfth five year plan of the planning commission, a proposal has been made to put emphasis on strengthening of Indian intellectual property regime through special IPR & Regulatory Centre.  As per the proposal, Pharmexcil is extending its support for the benefit of the members by bringing awareness programs on IPR and Regulatory Matters relating to Pharmaceutical Sector.

Dr A Ram Kishan, ADC, CDSCO, Ahmadabad emphasized the need for WHO-GMP and ICH guidelines. Bayya Subba Rao, representative of Pharmexcil, and Dr G G Nair, IPR Advisor to Pharmexcil spoke on the concepts of intellectual property rights.
