Hiranandani Hospital organises 'WALK FOR LIFE' initiative to spread awareness on breast cancer

Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital, the first NABH accredited multi-specialty hospital in Mumbai in collaboration with International Oncology Services Pvt Ltd., recently hosted “WALK FOR LIFE” initiative to create and spread awareness on the increasing concern for breast cancer incidences. The Rotary Club of Mumbai, LAKERS also joined hands for hosting this initiative.

Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital is also hosting a two day conference on comprehensive breast cancer care “THE PINK MEET” on February 2 and 3, 2013. All the advanced technology for breast cancer treatment will be conferred at this international forum in the presence of national and international oncology experts.

One in 20 urban women is diagnosed with breast cancer annually. Studies indicate that breast cancer is set to overtake cervical cancer as the most common cancer among Indian women by 2020. Spearheading this initiative, Dr Sujit Chatterjee, CEO, Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital said, “Breast cancer is the commonest cancer among urban women and rapidly becoming the number one cancer in females. Community and collective awareness plays a major role in dealing with a dreaded disease like cancer. It gives me immense pleasure and contentment seeing such keen and eager participation and response from the socially conscious citizens of Mumbai.”

Dr Pradeep K Jaisingh, CEO, International Oncology Services Pvt Ltd stated, “With advancement in cancer treatment and early detection, cancer cases are curable. Breast cancer is the leading disease amongst urban Indian women, which can be treated and cured through comprehensive cancer detection and advanced treatment. We aim to address and create awareness about these serious concerns among the people."

Since October is observed as the National Breast Cancer awareness month in most countries. The pink ribbon is the most prominent symbol which is signifies breast cancer. Keeping in line with this, theme for the ‘WALK FOR LIFE’ was also Pink, wherein walkers participated to support the cause.

With over 500 enthusiastic participants including many breast cancer survivors, the walk started from Heritage Gardens, Powai covering a distance of 2.2 kms around the Hiranandani Gardens.
