The Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) is planning to take a delegation to Russia, Moldova, Belarus and Turkmenistan during December 1-15 and has proposed to organize buyer seller meets to establish networks with the market leaders in those countries.
As a part of this visit, Pharmexcil is planning to participate in the APTIKA Exhibition 2012 which is being held at Expo Centre in Moscow. The event is expected to take place during December 3-6, 2012. The council is also organizing an India Pavilion and an exclusive buyer seller meet at the event.
During the past three years since 2008-09 to 2010-11, Indian Pharmaceutical exports have increased considerably to CIS countries. But exports are dwindling now for some reasons. If it is showing a growth in one year it is slightly decreasing in the next year. In view of this, the Pharmexcil has decided to explore more into these markets and is planning to push more to grab potential demand for Indian bulk drugs, formulations and herbal products in the CIS region.
In the year 2008-09 the Bulk drug exports to Russia stood at $11.75 million and it has risen to $16.08 million in the subsequent year. But in 2010-11 there had been a slight fall in the Bullk drug exports which stood at $15.87 million.
In case of formulations, Indian exports to Russia had seen some ups and downs. While it was $321 million in 2008-09, it slipped to 258.52million in 2009-10 and again increased to $402.52 million in 2010-11. In herbals there was a rise in exports from $.011 million in 2008-09 to $0.21million in the subsequent year. But it had again slipped to its original value of $0.11million in 2010-11.
Over all, Indian exports to Russia have been considerably increased from $333.11 million in 2008-09 to $418.5 million in the year 2010-11.
Apart from Russia, other CIS countries which have seen a slight rise of Indian pharmaceutical imports are Moldova, Turkmenistan, and Belarus. In the year 2008-09 Indian exports to Maldova stood at $5.38 million, but in the subsequent year it had slipped to $4.55 million and is had slowly regained to $5.21 in the year 2010-11. Though the value is rising but still it is below the 2008-09 mark.
Similarly, is the case with Belarus, though Indian exports to Belarus stood at $17.43 million in 2008-09, it had slowly seen a decreasing trend and was recorded at $14.2 million for the year 2010-11.
Even for Turkmenistan the first two years 2008-09 and 2009-10 had seen a rise in exports from $8.55 million to $9.46 million. But it had declined to $9.15 million for the year 2010-11.
“We have seen a good rise of pharmaceutical exports to the CIS region initially, but of late the figures are on the downside. So we want to take a delegation to these four countries Russia, Moldova, Belarus and Turkmenistan to explore more business and build a long lasting relationship and increase our exports to the region,” said Dr P V Appaji, director general Pharmexcil.
