Seminar on “Pharma Quality by Design Approach”

Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Goa state Branch, recently organised a half-day seminar on a very contemporary topic, “Pharma Quality by Design (QbD) approach” at Hotel Fidalgo, Panaji, Goa.

The keynote speaker at the seminar was Professor (Dr) Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, co-ordinator, Centre of Advanced Studies, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh on the topic, "Attaining Twin Objectives of Product Development Excellence and Federal Compliance using QbD-based Paradigm of Formulation by Design (FbD)".

The explicit 2.5 hour lecture encompassed elements of Quality by Design (QbD) approach, Design of Experiments (DoE), and the emergence of Formulation by Design (FbD), touching upon their current federal perspectives, applications in product development and even beyond.

The highlight of the lecture was addressing various FAQs usually encountered and asked by pharma industry. It was followed by an hour long Interactive session with nearly 60 scientist IPA members gathered there, representing diverse streams of profession, i.e., pharma R&D, pharma excipients, pharma analysis, pharma QA, Drug Regulatory Agencies (FDA, DCGI), academia, and beyond.

Earlier, the ball was set rolling by Salim Veljee, president of IPA, Goa State Branch. In his welcome address, he not only welcomed Dr Bhoop, dignitaries and delegates gathered there, but also shared the preamble of the Seminar. Maya offered floral welcome to the Guest. Dr Praveen Khullar, senior director Development Centre at Sanofi-Aventis Group briefly introduced the speaker to the audience.

Anant Naik, secretary of IPA, Goa State Branch, who conducted the entire proceedings, also appraised the audience of the impending IPA Convention 2013 to be hosted in April 2013.

Globally acclaimed for his research work in “Formulation by Design (FbD)” on “optimized” drug delivery and advanced pharmacokinetics, Prof Dr Bhupinder Singh Bhoop has contributed three decades of dedicated service towards pharmaceutical education, research and profession.

Prof Bhoop is a prolific writer with over 155 Publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals, three books, 10 book chapters, and several industrial projects and consultancy assignments to his credit. A widely travelled scientist, he has shared his experience & expertise at several prestigious forums through over 160 invited talks delivered in India and abroad.

Hundreds of industrial scientists have been trained by him especially on FbD & IVIVC. His work has fetched several awards and accolades, including the recent “QbD & Product Performance Award 2012” by AAPS, USA, and “Pharma QbD Excellence 2012” by CPhI Asia.
