The final day of BioAsia 2013 concluded amidst awards and releases of reports on emerging trends and alliances in biosimilars and biologics markets across the globe.
Closing down the curtains, the third day of the 10th edition of BioAsia 2013 saw release of important research reports on emerging trends, alliances and intellectual property rights regimes across the globe.
Participating at the valedictory function at Hyderabad International Convention Centre, Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry D Purandeswari released special collaborative research report prepared by Grand Thorton on key trends and alliances in the biologics and biosimilars markets. Another report on intellectual property rights regime prepared by ISB (Indian School of Business) was also released by the Minister.
After the three day deliberations the BioAsia forum came out with these important reports which reflect the current trends and future prospects of biosimilars and biologics markets in the country and across the globe. BioAsia-Grant Thorton report extensively focused on the recent developments in the biosimilars space particularly partnerships and regulatory dynamics in key global markets. BioAsia-ISB report captured the impact of the changes in Indian Patent Law on strategies and competitiveness of local players.
The final day of the deliberations saw regulators from 11 countries interacting and sharing knowledge with the industry and gaining an understanding of Indian Life-sciences and Biotechnology through their field visit. Regulators from USA, UK, Czech Republic, Jordan, South Africa, Malaysia, Tanzania, Lithuania, Myanmar and Sri Lanka participated and shared advice with the delegates. The forum also witnessed around 450 business-to-business (B2B) meetings and about 500 delegates from across 47 countries took part during the course of this three-day event.
The closing ceremony also witnessed the presentation of various awards to scientists, entrepreneurs and researchers who have shown exemplary performance in their fields of specialization. Among the important awardees, Dr Vijay Datla, CMD of Biological E limited, was presented with Federation of Asian Biotech Association (FABA) special award.
Paritosh Parashar from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur was awarded with BioAsia 2013 Innovation award which carries a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh. He has been awarded for his exemplary work on a ‘BMP Responsive Osteoblast Reporter Cell line’. Runner-up prize was awarded to Rupam Kumar Bhunia of IIT Kharagpur for an approach to genetically engineer the mechanism that determines the nutritional quality of sesame oil and Anshuman Shukla from Punjab University was also awarded the runner up prize for oral delivery of diphtheria toxoid using nano-bilosomes that induces significant systemic and mucosal immune response.
BioAsia Young Minds award which carries a cash prize of Rs.50,000 was awarded to Meghna D Kumar, from St. Patricks Junior College, Hyderabad for self retracting clothesline.
Important personalities who took part on the closing day of the BioAsia include Dr Khalid Chowdhary, president, FABA, Dr William Dar, director general of ICRISAT, WookJae Lee, director general, Global Business Bureau, Gangwon Provincial Government, South Korea, Sanjay Puri, Chairman – US India Business Alliance and Dr PV Appaji, director general of Pharmexcil.
