Agilent Technologies, a global leader in measurement technologies for different sectors including life sciences and food, is rolling out steps to bolster its presence in India and is hopeful of a 'high double digit' growth for the company in the coming years.

“India is a major and key growing market for us. We are looking to strengthen our presence geographically and demographically in the coming years. Life sciences and food are the focus areas for the company,” said Danilo Cazzola who is the vice president of sales, marketing and customer support and general manager for Agilent's Chemical Analysis (CAG) business in Europe and India.

Talking to Phamabiz during his recent visit to India, he said genomics and biosimilars are the two key areas to drive the future growth of the company in the country where it has already a good presence, catering to all sectors that use the measurement technologies.

“We have been growing steadily. We expect a high double-digit growth in India which is a key market and growth centre considering the recent advances in drug development and standardization of food sector,” he said.

Agilent products address the world’s measurement needs in food safety, air and water quality, and energy by detecting trace levels of substances with high levels of accuracy. From farm to fork, Agilent is there. Food producers and processors use its systems to test for pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables, biological toxins in nuts and grains, antibiotics and steroids in meat and dairy products, and melamine in milk.

“We have centres in Bengaluru and Haryana to cater to the Indian market. Our solutions and applications are in use across the sectors and our product portfolio is very strong in India. We have a very strong infrastructure. Genomics, biosimilars, clinical diagnostics, clinical trials and food sectors have huge potential of growth for us,” he said.

Cazzola also informed that the company is keen to collaborate with the regulatory authorities to improve the quality standards especially in the life sciences and food sector which are witnessing sharp growth in India.

He also stressed the need for synchronizing with the international quality standards with the use of modern and latest technologies available in these sectors. The company is associating with academics, research institutions, and universities, apart from the private companies in these sectors, he added.

Commenting on the growth of India as powerhouse in life sciences, he said the country would outpace the growth rate of China and hence the company was focusing on India as a key market.
