On the eve of World Head Injury Awareness day, the Indian Head Injury Foundation (IHIF) has opened an upgraded state-of-the-art neuro-rehabilitation facility at New Delhi. The centre was inauguarated by Chandresh Kumari, Union Minister for Culture.
According to the Maharaja Gaj Singh II, founder & chairman, IHIF, “Today is World Head-Injury Awareness Day and the Indian Head Injury Foundation is marking it by inaugurating the upgradation of our Neuro-Rehabilitation facility at the Delhi Commonwealth Women's Association (DCWA) Hospital. Projects and programmes such as this, and the Cognitive Rehabilitation Conference in Kolkata next week - sponsored by IHIF - have received a critical impetus from the recently concluded Jodhpur One World Retreat; which has succeeded in raising vital awareness and resources for us.”
Dr Rajendra Prasad, senior consultant neurosurgeon & spine surgeon, Apollo Hospitals and executive director, IHIF said that India has the highest incidence of head injuries in the world with limited infrastructure for emergency medical response and treatment and almost no facility in neuro rehabilitation. In fact one third of those who die from head injuries could have been saved if timely care was available to them.
“IHIF is founded with a mission to improve morbidity and mortality of patients experiencing severe traumatic brain injuries (TBI). This is done through prevention, diagnosis and treatment, including neuro-rehabilitation. The Foundation is dedicated towards educating people about the consequences of head injuries. Taking another step towards our endeavour, we are inaugurating a newly upgraded state-of-the–art neuro-rehabilitation facility at Delhi where we will offer treatment to head injury victims and other patients needing rehabilitation, at a very subsidized cost,” he added
The centre will now offer latest treatment not only for neurological patients but also for those who are suffering from congenital diseases with latest equipment like: unweighing system for neurological patients (partial weight support system using a computerized harness where the patient is automatically lifted on the treadmill for walking purposes) with head injury, spine injury, stroke etc.; balance system for assessment and training of neurological patients with balance problem; GAIT trainer treadmill with adult and paediatric system uses for specialised gait re-education treadmill with visual feedback.; active passive cycle; electronic tilt table; ball pool for paediatric sensory re-education; standing frame for adult and paediatric; swing frame for paediatrics.
