Government College of Pharmacy (GCP), Bengaluru is all set to observe its 50 years of imparting pharmacy education in Karnataka. The event will be held on June 1 and 2, 2013, in Bengaluru. The college is looking to follow up with activities related to the same right through the year. The event titled as ‘Suvarna Sambhrama’ which refers to golden jubilee will include discussions on how pharmacists could serve better.
The GCP comes under the umbrella of Karnataka Drugs Control department.
According to Dr. BR Jagashetty, Karnataka drugs controller, patron, Government College of Pharmacy and former student of the College, the event is a landmark in pharmacy education in the state. “Therefore I am looking forward to these celebrations,” he added.
The GCP has nurtured pharmacy professionals and its alumni occupy high positions. These include US FDA, vice-chancellors, pharmacy college principals and faculty, scientists in the pharma industry and state drug controllers. Therefore, the two-day celebrations would also recognise the efforts of the retired professionals and faculty members of the college. There will also be deliberations led by the distinguished alumni of the college.
The local organising committee of ‘Suvarna Sambhrama’ has been formed with Professor S Shashidhara, principal, GCP as the chairman. Shiva Hiremath, president of the Alumni association, GCP is the vice chairman. Dr S Ramachandra Setty, professor, GCP is the organising secretary, LVG Nargund is the general secretary, Harish K Jain is the joint secretary, KP Channabasavaraj and Kempaiah Suresh are joint organising secretaries. KR Amarnath is the treasurer. V Madhavan and Goni Fakirappa are joint treasurers.
The other GCP patrons are Raghuram Bhandary, additional drugs controller, government of Karnataka and B Suresh, president of Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
The GCP co-patrons are SK Kulkarni, Dr DBA Narayana, member Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Sreekant Murthy and G Jagadeesh from the Scientific Coordinating Committee, American Association of Government College of Pharmacy (Bangalore) Alumni (AAGCPA), New York, USA.
