Basavatarakam Indo-American cancer hospital and research institute gets NABH accreditation

The National Accreditation Board for Healthcare (NABH) has accredited the Hyderabad based Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute as the first certified trust hospital in cancer care in India.

With this accreditation, it is expected that all stakeholders, particularly the patients will benefit immensely as the hospital will be providing objective system of empanelment by insurance and other third parties.

Out of 174 NABH approved hospitals in the country so far, the state of Andhra Pradesh alone has about 21 hospitals that are accredited by the NABH.  In healthcare, Andhra Pradesh is rapidly moving towards installing modern infrastructure. There are about 50 super specialty hospitals in Hyderabad alone.

In cancer care, Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute has been recognised as a specialist centre and holds a key place for its immense contribution in cancer care.

Over the past few years, the hospital has been doing its best to provide the most advanced treatment to its patients and has also initiated several measures to ensure quality in hospital services.

Speaking about the quality standards, Nandamuri Balakrishna, chairman of the institute said, “No efforts would be spared to ensure international quality and affordable cancer care to the patients.”

He said some services have already been recognised by National Accreditation Board of Laboratories (NABL) which has accorded accreditation to Laboratory medicine department & OHSAS 18001:2007 (International Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management) accreditations certified by TUV- SUD South Asia under the aegis of JAS-ANZ Accreditation Service to hospital.

These accreditations benefit all stakeholders particularly the patients. Accreditation results in high quality of care and patient safety. The patients get services by qualified medical professionals. Rights of patients are respected and protected and patient satisfaction is regularly evaluated.

The staff in an accredited health care organisation is satisfied a lot as it provides for continuous learning, good working environment, leadership and above all ownership of clinical processes.

Accreditation to a health care organisation stimulates continuous improvement. It enables the organisation to demonstrate commitment to quality care.
