SAIP-Indore organises national seminar on “Bioethics & Recent Trends in Clinical Research”

Sri Aurobindo Institute of Pharmacy (SAIP) at Indore recently organised a one-day national seminar on “Bioethics & Recent Trends in Clinical Research” at the Institute. The seminar was sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The symposia was inaugurated by Prof. B Suresh, president, Pharmacy Council of India and vice chancellor of JSS University, Mysore. He was invited as a chief guest and speaker who delivered a keynote lecture on “Good research & Bad research”. He further discussed about  the hidden aspects of research, objectives of research i.e. confidentiality, creditability and timelines, research guidance programme, importance of original contributions to research, challenges of research, originality and novelty etc.

The seminar was presided over by Dr Bharat Chhaparwal, ex. vice-chancellor, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (Indore), Dr Vinod Bhandari, chairman, Sri Aurobindo Group of Institutions, Indore and Prof. S C Chaturvedi, director of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Pharmacy welcomed about 250 delegates hailing from different colleges across the country, mostly from central India.

Experts from across the country were present at the national event held at the institute.

Prof. C T Chopde, ex professor and head, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nagpur University, Nagpur, discussed “Clinical research in India: From boon to bane or rebound? Impact of regulatory reforms” which paved the way to better understanding of ethical framework, ethical principal of Indian GCP, CDSCO compliance & guidelines, Supreme court directives, schedule Y, form 122A, Form 122B, stringency of new norms for clinical trials.

Prof. S S Agarwal, pro vice chancellor, Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh delivered his lecture on the topic “pharmacovigilance of aphrodisiac, cosmeceuticals, denitrifies” and also discussed the outcomes of pharmacovigilance studies which showed presence of nicotine in non tobacco denitrifies, fluoride content in toothpaste, toothpowder and heavy metals in cosmeceuticals i.e. presence of lead in lipsticks and arsenic content in hair dyes.

Prof. S K Kulkarni, emeritus professor of Pharmacology & former pro- vice chancellor (Dean University Instruction), Panjab University Chandigarh (currently at Belgaum, Karnataka) delivered his lecture on the topic “Pharmacovigilance program of India (PvPI) 2013” where he highlighted the line of discrimination between side effects and adverse effects and discussed about various pharmacovigilance organisations in India and world and shared significant incidences and facts in this concern.
