The Indo-British Health Initiative (IBHI) is organising a two-day Indo-UK Oncology Summit between September 6 and 7, 2013 at the Hilton Hotel, Chennai. As a prelude to the mega event and to encourage participation of young professionals with their fresh thoughts and innovative ideas to initiate constructive interaction, IBHI has planned for the IBHI Oncology Quiz and the Young Innovator Award.

According to the organisers, this is for the first time, India and the UK are coming together to discuss their strengths and challenges in the area of cancer care, with pre and post programme co-operation as the major aim in this path-breaking exchange of technology and learning.

The objective of the event is to stage a series of scientific and technical presentations by Indian and British experts on the latest treatments, protocols, technological developments and innovations,  identify opportunities for enhanced partnerships in oncology education and training, including in curriculum development, specialist nursing and allied health. The event is also aimed to promote the products and services of UK commercial providers by giving them access to a wide range of clinicians, hospital promoters and decision-makers.

As with diabetes and other non-communicable diseases, the rising incidences of cancer present significant challenges to India. Chennai having a large number of leading institutions with many of the country’s best oncology centres situated, we therefore see great value in using an event focused specifically on oncology with an emphasis on some specific organs to provide a platform to enable strong and sustainable UK-India partnerships, with the IBHI and the UK Government playing a leading facilitation role, said the organizers.

The event will also have an Oncology Quiz where Post Graduates in medicine are eligible. The winners will awarded with cash prize of Rs.15,000.

The Young Innovator Award is to encourage scientists under 40 years of age engaged in oncology research.
