BioGenesis - The Euro-Indian Health Cluster (UK), Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) Hyderabad, and OMICS Publishing Group (USA) are jointly organising ‘Healthy Ageing in The Changing World-2013’ the second International Conference on Geriology, Geriatrics Medicine and Rehabilitation from September 30 to October 1, 2013 at J N Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of Sciences, Bengaluru.
Leading doctors, scientists, advocates and legal experts from India and abroad will be attending this conference. As a sequel to the first conference and to keep the discussions and conversations on ageing open, the conference is titled ‘World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics.’
The conference will be inaugurated by Dr Hans Raj Bhardwaj, Governor of Karnataka. Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, Union Cabinet Minster - Petroleum and Natural Gas, Veerappa Moily, Minister of State Parliamentary Affairs and Planning, Rajeev Shukla, Minister of Higher Education, Govt. of Karnataka, R V Deshpande, Minister of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Dinesh Gundu Rao, former Chief Justice of India, Dr M N Venkatachalaiah are participating in the inaugural program on September 30, 2013.
On the occasion, Ian Felton, British Deputy High Commissioner, Bengaluru will open the Indo British Geriatrics Council plaque which symbolizes the coming together of two large nations with a mission to provide quality life and improve the well being of elderly.
The International Day of Older Persons observed on October 1, annually globally will be marked with a free health screening programme for the geriatric participants at the venue.
The conference will deliberate on the issues and a broad range of clinical topics including the latest information on diagnosis, management and treatment for common problems in the ageing population, stated the organisers.
Dr V P Rao, convener, Organising Committee said, “The conference would be an ideal opportunity for health care providers from all disciplines and professionals interested in the field of ageing and seek clinical information about geriatric issues.”
Dr Rao said, “Population ageing is the most significant emerging demographic phenomenon. Asia has the largest number of world’s elderly (53 per cent), followed by Europe (25 per cent).
Dr Anoop Amarnath, chairman, Organising Committee said that the population of elderly in India our country has increased exponentially from 77 million at the beginning of last century to around 100 million now, forming nine per cent of total population of the country. Thus, the country has become a ‘graying nation.’
The conference will unveil, for the first time, a live demonstration of managing an Intensive Care Unit at home for the elderly, remotely from a hospital, said Dr Amarnath, director and consultant, Geriatric Medicine, Apollo Hospitals.
