With a view to introduce the best and latest medical technologies in the country, Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai has inaugurated Acute Care Unit in the department of Infectious Diseases. The first unit of its kind is a highly specialised isolation unit that looks at treating high risk communicable diseases such as H1N1, HIV, tuberculosis, SARS, chicken pox, etc.
This Unit will provide services for infected patients run by Dr Om Shrivastav, director Dept. of Infectious Diseases and also the head of this department.
Jagdish Chanrai, trustee and Kanta Masand, managing trustee inaugurated the new unit.
“We take immense pride in taking patient care in Infectious Diseases to an altogether new level, since such a facility run by a dedicated Infectious Diseases Specialist does not exist as yet in the country. The structure of this unit is designed in such a way that it meets the most stringent requirements of isolation by any global standards,” said Dr Tarang Gianchandani, acting CEO, Jaslok Hospital.
As a two bedded unit in isolation of highly communicable infections, this unit has several key exclusive features: negative pressure chambers; exclusive air handling units; rapid cycle changes 40-60 cycles per hour to keep air at maximum sterility; Hepa filters and ultraviolet air sterilization of air before exhaust.
Besides managing airborne illnesses, this unit is equipped to manage all kinds of communicable diseases. This department takes pride in being able to provide care at affordable and competitive terms.
Jaslok’s MRgFUS [MR Guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery] unit also completed treatment of over 320 patients [highest number in India] successfully suffering from uterine fibroids, uterine adenomyosis, prostrate cancer, bone metastasis, lumbar facet arthropathy etc.
