Fortis Healthcare Limited is now working to add two high end medical facilities in Bengaluru, aggregating 280 beds, over the next two years. One is the Fortis La Femme, dedicated to Mother and Child care, at Richmond Road, and the other one is the 210-bed centre for cancer on Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru. The investment details were not disclosed.

According to Malvinder Mohan Singh and Shivinder Mohan Singh, executive chairman and executive vice chairman, Fortis Healthcare Limited, together laid the foundation stone for Fortis La Femme.

The ground breaking ceremony for Fortis’s 210 bed tower on Bannerghatta Road with a comprehensive cancer-care facility, is slated today. Apart from oncology, the new expansion will have additional operation theatres with a high end Brain Suite and state-of-the-art ICU’s.

“It is has always been our desire to expand access and bring high quality affordable medical care to patients across the country. Karnataka is an important hub for us. Both facilities will fill a vital need gap and complement Fortis’ medical specialty offerings in the city. Together with our existing hospitals in Bengaluru, Mysore and Chennai, these new facilities will set higher benchmarks for medical care in the region,” stated the tow Fortis chiefs.

Fortis La Femme, a 70-bed hospital will be ready to receive patients by mid 2015. It will provide primary to tertiary medical care and surgical capability in gynaecology, obstetrics and cosmetology, in addition to an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) clinic and a fully-equipped neonatal intensive care unit. Through Fortis Mamma Mia, the hospital will provide holistic ante and post-natal services for women and day-care medical services for children.

The proposed Centre for Oncology at BG Road assumes significance in light of the worrying trends revealed by the Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR) Report 2013. Bengaluru now has the third highest number of cancer cases in India, with around 125 cases per lakh of population, detected every year. Additionally, Bengaluru has seen a higher number of women than men being detected with the disease.

Fortis’ comprehensive Centre for Oncology will provide end to end cancer care from diagnostics to rehabilitation, integrating cutting-edge medical technology and internationally acclaimed clinical expertise to provide treatment across medical, radiation and surgical oncology. The latest advancements in linear accelerators, brachy therapy, and nuclear medicine will be incorporated.

The Centre will also serve as a preferred treatment facility for patients from the rest of Karnataka and neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
