Disciplined financial dealings and good professional ethics are the major qualities required to create sound basis for a pharmaceutical business, especially in marketing side.  Those who want to confine in the marketing of pharma products should strive towards continuous growth of their business and adhere to honest professional standards, opined M Rajaratinam, chairman, Tamil Nadu chapter of the Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA).

While addressing the pharmaceutical and neutraceutical marketers of Tamil Nadu after inaugurating the 7th AGM of the Consortium of Indian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Marketers Association (CIPMMA), he said the small business units of yesteryears have become big companies or large business groups today. Quoting his own example, he said along with three pharmacy graduates, he started a small business firm in Chennai in 1997 with a capital investment of Rs. 2 lakh, which has now grown into a big company with an annual turnover of Rs. 67 crore.

He advised the young marketers to become hardworking business professionals and strive for good opportunities in pharma trade which will continue to persist as long as the human beings exist.

According to Rajaratinam, IDMA is concentrated on business development and promotion unlike TN PMA which is engaged more in regulatory activities. The Tamil Nadu chapter of IDMA is conducting various business development programmes and further it will target the marketers also. The ensuing trade exhibition, Pharmac South--2014 is targeting mainly the marketers. It will create platform for promotion of marketing business for all the marketing companies and manufacturing companies. Besides, it is hoped to establish a business link between the south Indian pharma SSIs and big players for rendering contract manufacturing services also. The marketing groups were wanted to visit the trade exhibition on July 18 and 19 at Chennai Trade Centre in Chennai.

During interaction with the marketers of Tamil Nadu, the TN IDMA chairman wanted CIPMMA to support the trade exhibition and informed them that six pharma associations from south India were joining the organisational set up of the programme.
