Leica Biosystems, a global leader in solutions for automation and workflow in anatomic pathology, announced the registration of its Aperio AT2 high-throughput digital slide scanner as a CE-marked, medical equipment for in-vitro diagnostics in Europe.
"The clinical release of the Aperio AT2 in Europe is another milestone in our ongoing efforts to provide healthcare staff with seamless solutions," says Puneet Sarin, vice president and general manager at Leica Biosystems, Pathology Imaging. "This allows pathologists to make a diagnosis on the computer screen. Integration with hospital and laboratory information systems prepares a comprehensive platform for the implementation of digital pathology in routine diagnostics."
The Aperio AT2 and the ePathology software suite will enable European healthcare institutions to support experts in the field of pathology, without having to accept delays and logistical problems associated with the sending of glass slides in purchasing. A quick access to the e-Slides, coupled with the optimal picture quality from Leica Biosystems, allows pathologists, the patient can quickly announce a diagnosis, which can reduce the anxiety that is often associated with the long wait for a diagnosis.
The Aperio AT2 extends the portfolio of Leica Biosystems by Bright Field and FISH Imaging and Clinical Analysis Solutions (clinical imaging and analysis solutions), which also include the Aperio CS2 scanner and the Ariol systems.
