Diabetacare has now implemented its first-to-market 24/7 novel mobile application known as ‘Snap a Meal’ service to monitor and bridge gaps in current diabetes management in the country.
‘Snap a Meal’ captures information on calorie intake and helps control weight and blood sugar level. The mobile app is viewed as an efficient, effective and affordable device for the growing diabetic population estimated at 61 million in India. The current diabetes service models of periodic patient visits to their healthcare providers do not lend itself to the regular, disciplined self-management and care required for successful treatment of diabetes. Taking care of health now becomes easy with this applications as India accounts for a large mobile users population, Dr Sanjiv Agarwal founder and chief executive officer, Diabetacare told Pharmabiz over email.
“Now the app allows the physicians to stay up-to-date on their patient’s health and provide timely care. With Snap a Meal, the patient needs to take photograph of a meal using the app. We will send the nutritional value of the meal on a real-time basis with calorie values along with details of its carbohydrates, fat and proteins,” Dr Sanjiv Agarwal founder and chief executive officer, Diabetacare said in an email.
The app is free for anyone to download. The round- the-clock care is provided to registered patients of Diabetacare. The patients have so far appreciated the app have asked for more services like access to diagnostic reports and diet plans . The app is in continuous development as we extend several services to our patients.
The entire technology platform, and mobile application was developed by the Diabetacare in-house tech-team led by Sudhir Krishnan. Any medical practitioner could sign-up with Diabetacare to provide round-the-clock care for their patients. In fact, several medical professionals have already partnered with Diabetacare and to extend 24/7 care as diabetes is a serious health condition. Even type 2 diabetes which was predominantly higher in adults has become one of the concerns in the pediatric population, he said.
The healthcare provider which is currently operating out of six locations in the country including Bengaluru plans to open 25 locations by March 2015.It has already implemented a robust training programme for doctors nurses and nurses. It has a collaboration with a UK University to create a dedicated pool of Diabetes Educators providing them with PG Certificate in Diabetes Nursing/Educator to strengthen its train the trainers initiative.
