Manipal Health Enterprises (MHE) has appointed Dr. Ajay Bakshi as its Managing Director & CEO. He takes over from Rajen Padukone who has assumed a new role as Group President in the holding company.
Dr. Bakshi will be responsible to drive growth and operations of the Company’s business and contribute to its goal of achieving unparalleled excellence in the Indian Healthcare industry.
Over the last two decades, Dr. Bakshi has played multiple roles. After graduating from AIIMS, he worked as a neurosurgeon for several years in India. Thereafter he moved to the US for stem cell research. During this period he also attended a business program at the Wharton school. In 2005, Dr. Bakshi joined McKinsey and Company, New Jersey and served large US corporations in medical devices, hospitals, pharmaceuticals and health insurance sectors to advice on strategy, organisations and operations.
In 2008, Dr. Bakshi was deputed to the Dubai Office of McKinsey and got an opportunity to serve Prime Ministers and Health Ministers of the Middle East and African countries to handle projects of design and effectiveness in Health Systems. In his last role, Dr. Bakshi was the managing director & chief executive officer, of a hospital network in North India.
Swami Swaminathan, executive chairman, MHE said that the move comes at a time when the group is aggressively expanding its footprint. Dr. Bakshi brings with him two decades of varied professional experience in Healthcare Management. MHE is strengthening its presence both in India and overseas. The healthcare major would continue to expand in existing and new locations in India and abroad.
