The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed or revised the prices in respect of 56 formulation packs both ceiling and retail price packs under Drugs Prices Control Order (DPCO), 2013.
The formulation packs whose prices have been fixed or revised by the NPPA are based on the bulk drugs neomycin + bacitracin, phenylephrine, phenytoin sodium, polygeline, pyridoxine, sodium meglumine diatrizoate, cefotaxime, chlorpromazine, paracetamol+mefenamic acid, dicyclomine HCl with combination, atorvastatin with combination, cyclosporine with combination, pyrimethamine with sulphamethoxypyridazine (Malarce), metformin hydrochloride with gliclazide+pioglitazone, tramadol + diclofenac, cetirizine HCl with paracetamol + phenylepherin HCl, bisoprolol fumarate with amlodipine and glimepiride + metformin hydrochloride (Azulix 4 MF & Azulix 3 MF).
The NPPA has also revised 36 notified ceiling prices based on increase in WPI as per provisions of DPCO, 2013. They include acetyl salicylic acid tablet, benzathine benzylpenicillin injection, benzathine benzylpenicillin injection, betamethasone injection, betamethasone dipropionate cream/ointment, carbamazepine tablets, carbamazepine tablets, ciprofloxacin hydrochloride injection, ciprofloxacin hydrochloride ointment, ciprofloxacin hydrochloride drops, Co-Trimoxazole (trimethoprim + sulphamethoxazole) suspension, Co-Trimoxazole (trimethoprim + sulphamethoxazole) tablet, dexamethasone tablet, dexamethasone injection, doxycycline tablet, famotidine tablets, gentamicin drops, gentamicin injection, griseofulvin tablet, ibuprofen syrup, levodopa+ carbidopa tablets, metronidazole syrup, prednisolone tablet, ranitidine injection, salbutamol sulphate tablet, salbutamol sulphate syrup, salbutamol sulphate inhalation, streptomycin sulphate injection, sulfadoxine + pyrimethamine tablets and sulfasalazine tablets.
“In exercise of the powers, conferred by paragraph 4, 6, 10, 11, 14 and 16 of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, read with S.O. No. 1394(E) dated the 30th May, 2013 issued by the Government of India in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (hereinafter referred as NPPA) hereby fixes the prices as specified in column (5) of the table herein below as ceiling prices exclusive of local tax applicable, if any in respect of the Scheduled formulations specified in the corresponding entry in column (2) of the said Table with the strength and unit specified respectively in the corresponding entries in columns (3) and (4) thereof”, the NPPA in its order 2087(E) said.
The manufacturers of above mentioned scheduled formulations having maximum retail price higher than the ceiling price specified in column (5) of the table hereinabove, shall revise the MRP to an amount not exceeding the ceiling price plus local taxes, wherever applicable in accordance with paragraph 13 (1) and 24 of the DPCO,2013, the NPPA further said in its order.
