New Jersey-based contract packaging provider that serves leading Rx, OTC, and generic drug manufacturers, has completed a dedicated serialization suite allowing the company to provide track-and-trace services down to the unit level. The new suite is first for such purposes that debuts with the installation of an Optel Vision TrackSafe system. The initial installation of the line was completed in July 2014 and the validation is projected to be completed by the first quarter of 2015.

The system's configuration allows the company to serialize individual cartons; aggregate cartons to cases; aggregate cartons to bundles; aggregate bundles to cases; aggregate cases to pallets; or rework previously serialized items according to customer needs. The Optel TrackSafe line at Reed-Lane’s serialization suite comprises the following stations:

A Carton Tracker Pharmaproof Station that incorporates a VideoJet Wolke M600 Dual Head Printer for applying serialized data directly to cartons, and an Optel High-Resolution Commissioning Camera for carton-level serialization.

A Bundle Aggregation Pharmaproof Station that aggregates serialized cartons within bundles utilizing two high-resolution commissioning cameras from Optel Vision. Here, serialized labels are applied with a Domino M-Series Print & Apply Labeler and commissioned with an Optel High Resolution Camera.

A Case Aggregation Pharmaproof Station where serialized cartons or bundles are aggregated within a case using an Optel Ultra High Resolution 15.8 Mega-Pixel Camera installed on a 3M Case Sealer. Serialized case labels are applied with a Domino M-Series Print & Apply Labeler and commissioned with an Optel high resolution camera.

A Line Master / Pallet Aggregation Station that aggregates cases to pallets via a serialized pallet label printed from a Zebra ZM400 printer and commissioned with a Datalogic Magellan 1100i table top scanner. A Datalogic PowerScan M8500 hand held scanner is available for commissioning and decommissioning items as needed.
“The new serialization suite provides Reed-Lane with a dedicated space to showcase its track-and-trace services – capabilities that are understandably, getting higher and higher on the priorities lists of major pharmaceutical manufacturers,” said Patricia Elvin, president of Reed-Lane.

The new serialization suite is the latest in a slew of recent upgrades at Reed-Lane aimed at addressing developing customer needs, including the installation of its fifth bottling line, two integrated Uhlmann blister/carton lines, a high speed ampoule labeller and a secured property providing a 30% increase in warehousing space.
