Portea Medical a home healthcare company has launched the 360° Wellness Home Care Plan that aims to tackle health issues arising out of the increasing occurrence of chronic ailments such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, asthma and stroke in India, as well as the rise of age-related health conditions including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease among the country’s growing population of geriatrics.
The 360° Wellness Home Care Plan is customised to every individual and includes regular health monitoring and medical services rendered in-home by Portea doctors, nurses, nursing attendants and physiotherapists and supported by ancillary services such as medicines, diagnostic services and medical equipment on hire. The Plan helps individuals better manage their health through regular monitoring and treatment thereby reducing hospital visits unless absolutely necessary.
According to an UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) report, 1 out of every 5 Indians will be over 60 years of age by 2050 taking the total number of elders in India to 300 million. Of this, 200 million are likely to suffer chronic ailments. Already, non-communicable diseases, including cardio-vascular diseases (CVDs), diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cancer cause 1 in 2 deaths in India.
“We handles around 25,000 visits a month and our experience over the last year indicates the enormous necessity for medical needs to be ‘managed’ on a continuous basis often over the course of a lifetime,” said Meena Ganesh, co-founder and chief executive officer, Portea Medical.
According to Dr. Udaya Kumar Maiya, medical director, Portea Medical, sNormally, chronic illnesses and age-related conditions tend to be managed in an ad-hoc manner by individuals themselves or with the help of their family. The other option people may choose is visiting hospitals to see a doctor, undergo tests etc. But unless there is regular monitoring and proactive intervention there could be deterioration in the health of chronic care patients. This situation is even more likely for geriatrics for whom medical conditions tend to be asymptomatic at first. Our care plan, offers a practical and effective alternative; patients get the best care, in the comfort of their own homes.
“We provide a three-tiered system with Portea clinicians at the front-end backed by active oversight from our SMEs (Subject Matter Experts). Our 18 city network with a 1000 member team allows for seamless and quality services across the country,” added Dr. Maiya.
