Johnson & Johnson India announced that Honorable Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao, laid the foundation stone for its new manufacturing facility near Kothur in Mahabubnagar district, Telangana, in the southern part of India. Vikas Srivastava, managing director, Johnson & Johnson Consumer (India), A P Jithender Reddy, Member of Parliament, Mahabubnagar, Y AnjaiahYadav, Member of Legislative Assembly, Shadnagar and the Johnson & Johnson India management board members, were also present.
Spread over 47 acres, the facility will be Johnson & Johnson’s largest manufacturing facility in India. The company will invest around Rs.400 crore in phase 1 to build a world-class facility to manufacture personal hygiene and skincare products. The facility will also create significant employment opportunities for the local community and the talent pool in the region.
Commenting on the occasion, Vikas Srivastava, managing director, Johnson & Johnson Consumer (India) said: “We are very excited to begin work on what will become our largest manufacturing facility in India. Johnson & Johnson has been serving the healthcare needs of India by providing safe, innovative products to consumers. With this new facility, we aim to further strengthen our commitment to consumers in India to improve the health and wellbeing of the society. We are very grateful to the State Government of Telangana for extending their support as we expand our operations here. We are especially thankful to the Chief Minister for his active involvement in enabling a conducive environment for industrial development in the state.”
The plant design will incorporate many innovative elements to ensure energy efficiency, water consumption patterns and waste management in a sustainable manner. It will leverage radiant cooling technology, natural lighting and water recycling. The facility will be developed as per WHO’s good manufacturing practices.
