The Indian School of Business (ISB)'s Nano Health team from Hyderabad has won Hult Prize and $ one million prize money from Hult and Clinton Foundation for their innovative and cost effective healthcare solution for slumdwellers.
Working on the Nano Health project, a group of five alumni from the ISB have been studying on the new healthcare initiative since past more than a year and had given presentations at the global forum on the new entreprenuerial healthcare concept and were selected for regional finals of Hult price in April this year. The Hult Prize is the largest student competition in the world. Over 11,000 teams from more than 300 global universities participated in the competition.
Out of 170 teams invited for regional finals held in 6 cities London, Dubai, Sao Paulo, Boston, Shanghai and San Francisco across globe simultaneously only 31 teams were selected for the final.
Congratulating the Nano Health team for winning Hult prize Ajit Rangnekar, Dean, ISB said, “Nano health will really revolutionise healthcare in India. This achievement is a culmination of the efforts of the students, supported by the faculty, the Max Institute of Healthcare Management at the ISB, and everybody associated with the team.”
Earlier, Dr. Ashish Bondia, a primary physician, who led the ISB’s team for Nano Health concept, said “Hult Prize contest is really a great platform for us to show our entrepreneurial concept at the global level. Out of 31 teams at Sao Paulo, our team got selected for global finals and finally we have won the Hult Prize. Our strength was a good mix of all departments of a good enterprise needed. Business, healthcare and technology all had a pretty good mix”.
Apart from ISB team, others who participated in the finals include teams from France, Spain, USA and Canada. Along with Hult Prize and the ISB’s team has also got a funding of US$ 1 million support from the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) for their innovative ‘Nano Health’ solution for slum dwellers.
The prize was given away by Bill Clinton, former president of the USA and Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank, at a high profile event held in New York city week.
State government of Telangana and the Industry has also congratulated the team and extended their support for the implementation of Nano Health concept in the state.
To take this forward, the Nano health team has also recently partnered with GVK Biosciences’ proprietary HEART (Health Emphasized Analytical and Reporting Tool), for cloud-based healthcare analytics framework.
