Dharwad-based SDM Dental College was recently awarded five-star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) after an assessment conducted all over the country. The institute has started the first oral implantology department in the country and is credited to be the only institution in the country, which provides comprehensive oral health care and training in general dentistry for trainees.
The NAAC awarded the redeemed status to the Department after inspecting the curricular aspects, evaluation of teaching and learning processes, research consultancy, infrastructure and student support enjoyed here.
The college, which is one of the institutions run by the SDME- Ujre, admits 100 students for its nine speciality courses of dentistry. In addition to this, the college also conducts a Dental Mechanic course. All these courses are currently affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). The institute has also started the department of Behavioural Sciences, to help trainees develop their communicable abilities.
