Medwell’s Nightingales inks pact with Philips to offer specialized home care respiratory services

Specialty home care company, Nightingales under Medwell Ventures has deployed the latest technology  to provide specialized home respiratory care services in Bengaluru.  The company recently has partnered with Philips Healthcare to install respiratory gadgets like non-invasive ventilator (NIV) and oxygen concentrator in homes  for  patients.

Under the partnership, Nightingales will take its specialty home services, for respiratory distress patients, to an advanced level by making respiratory gadgets like non-invasive ventilator (NIV) and oxygen concentrator. The  respiratory therapists and specialty nurses in pulmonology will be trained by Philips as per world class protocols to work in sync and provide the most advanced and effective treatment support to the patient.

The company indicated that studies showed worsening air quality and increasing number of patients with respiratory ailments in Bengaluru.  Around 15 per cent Indians in metros suffering from respiratory disorders and an estimated 30 million are reported to have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and require constant specialised care

“Monitoring at home becomes crucial with Home ventilation and Home oxygen therapy. The escalating incidences of respiratory disorders and the need for continuous specialised care in many cases, makes home based respiratory-care services an indispensable aspect of disease management," according to  Dr. K. S Satish, consultant pulmonologist.

The patient will also be registered at a call center where all the data of the patient will be stored. It will support patient education, promotion of healthy behaviour and self-care, leading to improved clinical outcomes. The call centre will also assign a nurse and a respiratory therapist to each patient for regular visits and monitoring, he added.

Any concern raised to the call center by the patient shall be immediately resolved by the medical team. Regular home visits by the medical personnel and follow-ups from the treating doctors will also be ensured said Lalit Pai, chief executive officer, Nightingales adding that the association marks a giant step in home-based respiratory healthcare services in India.

Nightingales currently provides 53,000 patient bedside nursing days per annum, 24,000 medical services annually and has over  5,000 families subscribing to its annual care plans. Medwell plans to expand the services of Nightingales with a Speciality Home Healthcare focus on Pulmonology, Cardiology, Metabolic diseases, Neurological health, Orthopaedics, Geriatrics, Rehabilitation and Post-Operative Surgical site management. It expects to set up a  network in 10 Indian metro clusters serving over a million families in the coming years which will be  supported by a cloud-based technology platform and protocol-driven services in specialised therapeutic areas.
