Fortis Hospitals, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru has won the National Energy Conservation Award for the year 2014.
The award was instituted by the Union government’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power. It is in recognition for the best initiatives in energy savings and for the quantum of savings achieved in electricity usage. The National Energy Conservation Awards are given to selected industrial units and hospitals that have made systematic and serious attempts for efficient utilization and conservation of energy.
The hospital major has been in the forefront in energy saving and conservation initiatives which has been one of the key guiding principles of the engineering department. There have been continuous efforts to conserve energy for the past five years. Fortis has been successful in saving twenty million liters of water every year and one million units of electricity in 2014. Moreover, 90% of the electricity used was from the wind energy which is a renewable power source.
The jury included international experts and award was presented at New Delhi by the Minister of State for Power, Coal and Energy Piyush Goyal.
“National Energy Conservation Award recognizes various industries including hotels and hospitals that work towards energy conservation. While, at the same time promoting energy efficiency and a shift to cleaner energy sources is imperative. We are now a part of a group known for its green innovation efforts said Karthik Rajagopal, regional director South, Fortis Healthcare.
