The Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) has expressed happiness, as the state government of Telangana has allowed them to appear for Post Graduate medical entrance test to be held next month. Earlier, the junior doctors association had gone on an indefinite strike for almost 2 months against the state government, demanding removal of compulsory rural service clause for the MBBS and PG medical students.

As part of this, the junior doctors and PG students in the state have lost more than 60 days in their academics. This has led to a shortfall in their attendance, because of which they are barred from appearing in the PG medical test which is expected to be held from 1st March 2015.

To compensate the attendance and to cover up full academic year for the students, the Department of Medical Education had extended the academic year for 2 months for house surgeons and PG students. Because of this, more than 600 medical students in Telangana will lose their chance to apply for Medical PG due to non completion of their academic year.

The NTR Medical and Health Sciences University has declared the last date for applying for PG entrance test as 16 February 2015. But the Medical students in Telangana will complete their academic year by the end of March 2015. In view of this, Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrashekara Rao has directed the state Health Minister Dr. Laxma Reddy, Dr. Putta Srinivas, Director of Medical Health and Principal Secretary to take all necessary steps to resolve the issues relating to the medical students and help them for applying the PG entrance test.

In view of this, the Department of Medical Education authorities have spoken to NTR Health University Vice Chancellor and have requested to extend the last date for PG application by two more days. To this effect, the NTR Health University has decided to extend the last date.

“We are thankful to the government for helping us appear for the Post graduate Medical entrance test. As the NTR Health University has extended the last date for two more days, it will help all the students to appear for the test,” sources informed.
