MedPlus, a leading pharmacy retail chain has launched ‘MedPluslab.com’, an online based clinical laboratory service in Hyderabad. The company, which has been operating clinical laboratories under the name MedPlus PathLabs, aims to reinforce the service by making it easy and convenient for customers to avail laboratory tests from the convenience of their homes at half the prevailing market rates.

Consumers can visit MedPluslab.com, select the tests they need and the address where their sample needs to be collected and book a time slot for collection. Once the test is performed, consumers can download and print their online reports conveniently at their home. In case where one is unsure of what tests the doctor has requested, there is an option to directly upload the prescription and the MedPluslab.com team will call and help them place their order. Customers can choose from a comprehensive list of tests, including all the routine and specialized pathology tests, or opt for one of the preventive health check up packages. The services are presently available in Hyderabad and the model will be replicated soon in Bangalore and Chennai.
Currently, size of the Indian diagnostic market is around USD 2.2B in FY15 and is growing at 18 per cent CAGR. As per current estimates there are more than 1 lakh labs across India, of which 85 per cent is unorganized. Due to lack of proper regulatory mechanisms, quality standards are poorly maintained.
