Sankara Eye Hospital to collaborate with University of Bonn to promote joint research and exchange of knowledge

Sankara Eye Foundation, Bengaluru has collaborated with the University of Bonn, Germany to promote joint research and exchange of knowledge.
 
India is among the largest eye care providers globally and for the purpose of enhancement in the arena of patient care, Sankara Eye Hospital, an NABH accredited tertiary centre, collaborated with the University of Bonn, Germany to promote joint research and exchange of knowledge. Dr Kaushik Murali, president Sankara Eye Foundation India and Prof Holz, head of Department of Ophthalmology, University of Bonn signed an MoU to collaborate in research, technology transfer and transmission of knowledge.
 
“We are excited at the new partnership which would benefit us mutually. The collaboration would include, training of the respective faculty in subspecialty in ophthalmology, promote joint research and organize joint academic programmes,” said Prof Holz.
 
“It was interesting to see the level of research in rare eye diseases at the University of Bonn. This collaboration would also help Sankara Eye Hospital at Bangalore in establishing a similar centre for rare eye diseases,” said Dr Kaushik.
 
Dr P Janakiraman, mentor, Sankara Eye Foundation India and Dr Mahesh P Shanmugam, head Vitreoretina & Ocular Oncology, Sankara Eye Foundation India were part of the delegation.

Sankara Eye Hospital, under the aegis Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Medical Trust was established in 1977 at Coimbatore with a vision to provide quality eye care, the hospital performs over 25,000 eye surgeries annually.

The Foundation has its presence across 8 states and total bed strength of 1800. Till date more than 1.3 million free vision restoration surgeries have been performed.
