Apollo Hospitals - the largest healthcare group from India, has inked MoUs to enhance the healthcare cooperation with Kenya. Sangita Reddy, joint managing director, Apollo Hospitals Group, who was in Nairobi as a leading member of the Indian business delegation accompanying the Prime Minister of India, inked two significant MoUs with Kenyatta National Hospital and Airtel Africa, at Nairobi, Kenya.

The MoU with Kenyatta National Hospital is focused on capacity building in the Kenyan Healthcare sector. Kenyatta National Hospital is the oldest and most trusted Govt. hospital besides being the largest referral and teaching hospital in Kenya. Apollo Hospitals and Kenyatta National Hospital have identified various areas of collaboration and knowledge transfer to build local capacity in tertiary healthcare services.

Apollo Hospitals will train Kenyan doctors and other healthcare staff at Apollo hospitals in India. Specialists from Apollo Hospitals will visit Kenyatta National Hospital to conduct joint medical camps, educational lectures and training programs. This is in line with India’s support to Kenya in developing a self-sustainable healthcare services model.

According to Sangita Reddy, Apollo has partnered with Kenya for long by way of extending international care treatment to its patients and training their doctors, now we are ready to take it to new level and thereby further enhance India’s contribution to the Kenyan healthcare services.

The other deal signed by Sangita Reddy with Airtel Africa, a leading telecom operator with operations in 16 countries in Africa, is focused on enabling easy access to Apollo specialists and enhance healthcare cooperation across Africa. This deal will enable Airtel Africa subscribers access personalized advice in real time thereby bringing world-class healthcare services at their fingertips. It will provide its customers with discounted consultation and enable easy payment options through Airtel Money or the customers Airtime. This partnership with Airtel Africa will revolutionize the access to healthcare system, says Ms Sangita Reddy.

As part of this agreement, Apollo Hospitals and Airtel Africa will launch “Ask-Apollo”; a simple and reliable service from a professional medical team at Apollo Hospitals. 'Ask Apollo' is a web & mobile enabled patient-centric service, which combines the expertise of world-renowned Apollo doctors, with the convenience of consulting them at any time, from anywhere around the world. This easy-to-use platform allows one to talk to doctors, face-to-face through video conferencing, or connect with them via voice or email, thus saving the time, money and energy of patients anywhere. One can also upload clinical information including reports, images and scans, to be analyzed by Apollo experts, who can then provide an opinion within a stipulated time.
