Practo, a med-tech start-up now sees that medical professionals across Indonesia, Philippines, Brazil, Singapore and India being hooked on to digital technology adoption. Doctors are using it for patient management, digitisation of health records, overall clinic management including inventory and billing.

The assumption that doctors are not tech-savvy is no longer a fact. There is extensive use of technology which has created a positive impact for patient care going by the easy accessibility to immediate medical attention, Varun Dubey, AVP, marketing, Practo Technologies told Pharmabiz.

Cloud-based practice management software has now brought in an increased level of efficiency as the total time spent by patient waiting for doctors has reduced. Medical practitioners are able to spend ample time with each patient and also increase the number of consultations.

In 2009, with the entry of cloud based clinic management software Practo Ray, there was tremendous response from doctors who were involved in co-creating the product. The company received feedback on a day-to-day basis which enabled it to build features specifically for medical professionals. Currently, Practo Ray holds over 90 per cent market share amongst all doctors who use software to manage their practice.

Technology adoption is extensive across the healthcare space. Use of proprietary algorithms like OPD SaaS, HIMS and Insta products enables booking appointments and reduce waiting time at hospitals. The software helps create and manage digital healthcare records and prescriptions which are easy to get for a patient prior to an appointment.

“Even transmitting short message service (SMS) to remind to patients about the appointments with the doctor on that particular day has now reduced ‘no-show’ rates by upto 70 per cent bringing overall reliability to a doctor’s schedule,” he added.

Practice management with analytics enables superior clinic management interfacing appointments billing and inventory know-how. It helps doctors generate digital health records for patients helping to manage patient files including clinic notes, imaging files, prescriptions and invoices and protection against medico-legal cases as well as reduces denial rate of insurance claims.

“Practo Ray played a pivotal role in digitising medical practice management. It has specific features built for specialties including general physicians, paediatricians and dentists. It also provides better tools to healthcare providers and significantly improves patient care for some of the biggest healthcare issues plaguing our country, including controlling lifestyle diseases and ensuring immunizations for the paediatric population in the developing world,” said Dubey.
