Cosmetic Surgery Institute introduces laser technique for aesthetic dermatology in India

Shardul Nautiyal, MumbaiThursday, August 18, 2016, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

Touted as the most effective treatment globally for pigmentation removal and vascular lesions of the skin, Mumbai-based Cosmetic Surgery Institute (CSI) has introduced for the first time in the country a new laser technique for skin pigmentation, skin remodeling and treatment of vascular lesions.

The new FDA approved technique called as Alma-Q has been innovated by Israel-based Alma Lasers, a global innovator of laser, light-based, radio-frequency and ultrasound solutions for the aesthetic and surgical markets.

Alma-Q is the safest and most precise laser treatment solution for pigmented lesions. A high pulse repetition rate and easy spot size changes allow for faster treatments and greater penetration depth achieving excellent clinical outcomes. Advanced Alma-Q laser is suitable for all type of skins taking only 15 min to an hour for a treatment.

Dr. Mohan Thomas, chief cosmetic and laser surgeon, Cosmetic Surgery Institute, said, “The Q-Switched laser is the most effective way to remove unwanted brown spot, sun freckles or tattoos from your skin, while minimizing the risk of damaging surrounding tissue. The laser energy, which is in short nanosecond pulses, releases the pigments into skin so it can be naturally reabsorbed and disposed of by the body. It is also effective against sun spots on the chest, arms or legs.”

Explaining the treatment methods Dr. Thomas said, "Skin coloration irregularities are relatively common. Pigmentation disorders like hyper-pigmentation can make the skin appear lighter or darker or blotchy in places and often affects people of all races. During the treatment laser energy is delivered to the target area in a series of short pulses. The dark cells containing the most pigment more efficiently absorb this energy and the energy causes the pigment to break down. These laser treatments can also reduce redness while improving skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles.”

High powered Alma-Q is ideal for treating darker and brighter tattoos also. The treatment mechanically breaks down ink particles without causing thermal damage and minimizing risk of scarring or hypo-pigmentation.

Soumen Dutta, MD, Alma Medical India and SAARC Operations, said, “Alma-Q offers most powerful triple mode laser treatment having unique technical innovations like depth control and fractional delivery. It’s powerful and versatile for treating wide range of aesthetic dermal indications. Alma-Q is the first fractional Q switched laser for skin rejuvenation. Variable depth control allows the practitioner to combine both deep and superficial treatment approaches depending on the area being treated or skin type or indication.”

The number of sessions and time lag may last from a couple of weeks to months depending on the indication for which the treatment is sought. For e.g. a skin rejuvenation might take a couple of weeks while tattoo removal might take a couple of months.

Alma Lasers has been at the forefront of multi-technology systems, revolutionizing existing treatment methods and working to serve the varied and growing needs of both patients and practitioners around the world. With offices, R&D and manufacturing facilities on three continents and distributors around the world, Alma’s mission is to provide modular, cost-effective and high-performance systems based on the very latest clinical research and cutting-edge-technology.
