PCI to track online inspections done by its inspectors to avoid delay in approval of institutes

Swati Rana, MumbaiMonday, September 19, 2016, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) will soon upgrade its website to track the inspections done by the PCI inspectors and to make the functioning of PCI inspectors transparent. The council came out with this thought after observing delay in the conduct of inspections by the PCI inspectors.

It was noted that in many cases the approval process of the institutes gets delayed because in spite of council’s repeated pursuance neither the inspectors are conducting the inspections nor intimating the council about their non availability to inspect.

The Council has warned the PCI inspectors that the name of inspectors would be deleted from the council’s inspectors panel and they will be banned for another five years from inclusion in PCI inspectors panel, if the inspectors fail to immediately inform the council within seven days of the offer letter in case the inspector is not in a position to accept the inspection assignment.

Dr B Suresh, president of PCI says, “We will soon digitalize the working of the PCI inspectors to have a transparency in the work done by the inspectors. The PCI website will be upgraded and the inspection assignment and everything can be tracked online.”

He further informed that the council came across the issue of delay in the inspection while reviewing the performance of the council in the annual meeting. In the meeting it was informed that there are many pending inspection as the PCI inspectors are not conducting inspection on time due to their own work priorities.

There are nearly 2,000 inspectors and every inspector has an opportunity to conduct two to three inspections in a year. The issue is the PCI inspectors are not intimating the council if they are unable to accept the inspection assignment. We only want the inspectors to intimate us so that we can appoint someone else and the approval of the institutes will not suffer, said Dr Suresh.
