Biocon teams up with doctors for public awareness campaign on diabetes prevention & management

Biocon has teamed up with a team of medical experts for a month long patient centric support programme, spanning over 45 camps in Bengaluru. This is a part of its ‘Winning with Diabetes’ programme. The objective is to reach out to more than 3000 people to highlight a series of diabetes awareness campaigns, patient education programme, walkathon and diabetes detection programmes.

Healthcare professionals like Dr. M A Shekar, Director, Karnataka Institute of Endocrinology & Research, Dr. R Anil Kumar, Diabetologist, Karnataka Institute of Endocrinology & Research, Dr. Syed A A Javaz, Diabetologist and many other consultants joined hands for this initiative.
 
Dr. M A Shekar, Director, Karnataka Institute of Endocrinology & Research said, the diabetics need to take care of not just eyes but also nervous, kidney, heart, blood vessels is important. This can be achieved only by good control of Blood sugar, BP, Lipids, from the day one of diagnosis.
 
“India is home to 69.2 million diabetics, out of which 50% are undiagnosed. 50% of the patients’ who are on treatment, their blood sugar are not under control. Hence diabetes awareness and detection is essential to tackle the burden,” opined Dr. R Anil Kumar, Diabetologist, Karnataka Institute of Endocrinology & Research.

Dr. Syed A A Javaz, Diabetologist stated that it is important for people to incorporate lifestyle modification by regular walking for 30 minutes a day and free oneself from stress to prevent both diabetes and pre-diabetes.”
 
The company through this month-long initiative collaborated with 400 doctors in over 85 cities across the country and is targeting to reach out to over 50,000 people. In another initiative Biocon’s Metabolics division has collaborated with ‘Semora Entertainment’ for a nationwide program - The Diabetic Food Trail (DFT). This program is aimed at sensitizing the culinary industry on diabetes friendly food. In collaboration with certified nutritionists and Chefs, special diabetes friendly menus will be introduced at over 200 restaurants across the five cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai from November 12- 30, 2016.
 
In the second edition of ‘Diabetic Masterclass’ and ‘Diabetic Fitness Bootcamps’ will help individuals understand the nutritional values of various ingredients, read packaging labels, and learn exciting recipes so that people with diabetes can improve their dietary habits and lead a better quality of life.
 
According to Partha Roy Chowdhury, Head-Metabolics Division, Branded Formulations, Biocon said, “Through our ‘Winning With Diabetes’ programme, we aim to empower people with diabetes with the tools to better manage their disease and improve their quality of life.”
