India is expected to emerge as the global hub for the practice of traditional medicine and research soon as per a new policy being worked out by the Centre. As part of this initiative the Ayush ministry has sought suggestions and ideas from the global experts to be incorporated in the proposed draft policy aimed at streamlining the traditional health sciences in the country.
While revealing the government’s plan to strengthen Indian system of medical sciences, Sripad Yesso Naik, Union minister of state for Ayush said at the 7th World Ayurveda Congress in Kolkota,“We are taking concerted efforts for systematic development of Ayurveda and other traditional medicines in the country. For strengthening and streamlining this system, suggestions and ideas from experts will be incorporated in the new Ayush policy.”
Earlier, the minister administered an oath amongst Ayurveda practitioners and researchers for working concertedly to develop and popularize the practice of Ayurveda which is an ancient health care system developed through the ages. “With the changing dynamics of the medical sciences in the recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the traditional healthcare system across the world. Main reason for this is Ayurveda advocates preventive healthcare method of treatment,” said Naik.
The minister disclosed that Ministry of Ayush has already signed a number of MoUs with institutions in different countries for bilateral co-operation in research and knowledge-sharing in the field of Ayurveda and other traditional form of medicines. The ministry is working with other agencies, institutions and all concerned to turn India into a global hub for knowledge, research, practice and developmental projects on traditional medicines.
Applauding the hard-work showcased by the organisers of the 7th World Ayurveda Congress, which is a platform that brought together Ayurveda experts from all over the world, he said, it supports the Government’s aim to build awareness and sensitise people about the uniqueness of Ayurveda. The Minister declared that the next World Ayurveda Congress will be held in 2017 at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
