Narmada Kidney Foundation, a Non-Government Organization aiming to help people with kidney disease in support with Global Hospitals, a multi super specialty tertiary care hospital, organized Transplant games on 25th December 2016 to promote organ donation and transplantation and rekindle the hopes in the hearts of future transplant recipients. The event was supported by Indian Society of Organ Transplant, Mumbai Kidney Foundation, National Liver Foundation, Apex Kidney Foundation and Rotary Club of Nigdi, Pune.

Three hundred and fifty transplant patients and donors from 11 states participated in the event. Both outdoor and indoor games (running, walking, carom, pickle ball, table tennis, archery and rifle shooting) were incorporated in the Transplant Games for both transplant recipients and donors. The program started with demonstration of Malkhamb by visually impaired children under the guidance of Uday Deshpande. Ace cricketer, Padmakar Shivalkar, snooker champion, Faizal Khan, rifle shooting champions, Leena Lad and Rakhi Sawant were also present to grace the occasion.

Thousands of people suffer from end stage organ diseases and die every year due to lack of organ donors available in our country. Their life can be saved only by organ transplantation. This is possible only by organ donation which can be from cadaver donor, living related donor or living unrelated donor.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bharat Shah, Founder, Narmada Kidney Foundation & Director, Institute of Renal Sciences, Global Hospitals said, “It’s an honour for us at Narmada Kidney Foundation to organise an event which is dedicated for organ donors and organ recipients. The biggest act of benevolence by any human being is organ donation. It is because of the generous donors that so many patients with end stage organ disease are alive today.”

Speaking on the occasion, “Manpreet Singh Sohal, Regional CEO, Mumbai and Bangalore said, “We, Global Hospitals, Mumbai, are happy to be associated with such a spectacular event. It is an attempt to create awareness about how organ donation can help recipients to live their life. Not many are aware of the fact that lives can be saved by donating organs after death also. It’s a great platform to encourage organ donors.”
