Gadge Diabetes Centre is organising a 'Diabetes versus we' contest for medical students.  The event started on January 2 and will continue till January 10, 2017.

Diabetes versus we contest is working towards spreading awareness and eradicating diabetes through the medium of creative videos. The participants will have to present a video in which they will explain diabetes or its various aspects through an interesting and creative approach that should make it easier for the common man to grasp. The presentation video should not last more than 3 minutes and should be in Hindi. Students from all fields, including MD, MBBS, Dental, Physiotherapy, Dietitian, Homeopathy, Ayurveda can participate in this competition.

India is home to more than 65.1 million diabetics whereas in 2010 there were 50.8 million diabetics as per a research conducted by International Diabetes Federation. Hence it is considered essential to create awareness among the medical fraternity especially students who are the future of the health sector. Diabetes is moving from being an elderly disease to an increasing number of youngsters being detected of diabetes.

The winners will receive a cheque of Rs. 1 lakh and those who come second will get Rs. 50, 000. Participants can be individual or group and they need to upload the video on youtube. This video needs to be shared on facebook along with the diabetes versus we hashtag. All the participants should like the facebook page as well. To register, the participants need to fill a form available on the diabetes versus we website and share their link. The most liked video on facebook will get a cheque of Rs. 20,000.

“The competition will check how they make use of simple and subtle messages to explain Diabetes. As not all patients understand the concepts properly, such videos would be helpful in the technology friendly times. This will also attract youngsters’ attention and the various precautionary methods shared can be adopted by them as well for a diabetes free future,” says Dr Gadge whose video on diet for Diabetics went viral within few days of uploading it.

“This competition will help broaden the perspective of the medical students as they are the future doctors who should have clear concepts on lifestyle diseases like Diabetes. This will also motivate the medical students and all others present for the competition to educate themselves about Diabetes,” added Gadge.
