The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA)'s ambitious Ingredient Pharmaceutical Database Management System (IPDMS) project, launched in September last year with the objective of creating an appropriate mechanism of obtaining market-based data related to drugs, has evoked poor response from the industry as 32 of the top 100 pharma companies have turned a blind eye towards the project so far.

According to the NPPA, in spite of several extension of last date for registering with the IPDMS system and repeated warnings, it has been observed from the latest list of top 100 pharma companies 32 companies have not yet registered with the IPDMS system.

The 32 companies, which have not yet registered with the IPDMS system of the NPPA, are Zydus Cadila, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Alkem Laboratories, Aristo Pharmaceuticals, USV, Micro Labs, IPCA Laboratories, Alembic, Wockhardt, Indoco Remedies, Eris Life Sciences, Himalaya Drug Company, Akumentis Healthcare, JB Chemicals, Meyer Organics, Raptakos, Breti & Co,  Hetero Healthcare, Biochem Pharmaceutical Inds, Systopic Laboratories, Maneesh Pharmaceuticals, British Biological, RPG Life Sciences,  Ahreya Life Aciences, Charak Pharma, Danone, Indchemie Health Specialities, Bestochem Formulations, Walter Bushnell, Samarth Pharma, Indswift Laboratories, Merck Consumer Healthcare and Dabur India.

Earlier in September last year, the NPPA in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) developed the IPDMS, and asked all the pharma companies in the country to register themselves under IPDMS for online filing of returns in Form II, III and V under DPCO 2013.

Even though the NPPA had extended the last date for registration several times and had warned of stern action, a large number of pharma companies, including large companies, did not register themselves under IPDMS.

Now, the NPPA has asked the industry associations to impress upon its member companies to register themselves with the IPDMS system immediately.
