Interphex 2006 will introduce Generation Next Award this year for outstanding excellence in pharmaceutical manufacturing, apart from the prestigious Facility of the Year Award to recognize the global leader in facility engineering each year.

The GenerationNext Awards will spotlight emerging pharmaceutical industry leaders just as they are beginning to make their mark on the pharmaceutical industry. Five of the pharmaceutical industry's most talented young technical professionals will be recognized for their achievements in technical, scientific, or regulatory areas within pharmaceutical manufacturing.

AstraZeneca among Facility of the Year Award finalists

Six pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities located in Belgium, Ireland, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States have been selected for recognition in the second annual Facility of the Year Award competition sponsored by ISPE, Interphex, and Pharmaceutical Processing magazine. Five of the companies - AstraZeneca, Baxter BioPharma Solutions, Daiichi Asubio Pharma Co., Ltd., Janssen Pharmaceutica, and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals - have been named finalists. The sixth company - Biolex Therapeutics - was selected for special merit recognition. The winner of the 2006 Facility of the Year Award competition will be announced on 22 March 2006 at the INTERPHEX Conference and Exhibition at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

This prestigious award annually recognizes the global leader in facility engineering. The Award is based on significant contribution to the pharmaceutical industry, project uniqueness and innovation, quality, and project management. Examples of new or renovated world-class facilities that use cutting-edge engineering, innovative technology or advanced applications of existing technology to create a safe and productive manufacturing environment and attract top talent will be presented.

"Following the incredible success of last year's inaugural Facility of the Year Award competition, this year's 2006 submissions are proving to recognize and amplify the significance of this critical sector of the global pharmaceutical industry," said Robert P. Best, president and chief executive officer of ISPE, the leading not-for-profit society of pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals worldwide in an official release.

Each of the submissions was reviewed by an international blue-ribbon judging panel representing the pharmaceutical design, construction and manufacturing sectors.
