Dr Anil Gulati appointed in Venus Remedies' director board

The Chandigarh-based Venus Remedies Ltd has appointed Dr Anil Gulati, professor, University of Illinois, Chicago, as an independent director on its Board.

Dilip Sanghvi takes over as president of IPA

Dilip S Shanghvi, chairman & managing director of Sun Pharmacuetical Industries Limited and vice president of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) succeeded H F Khorakiwala of Wockhardt Group as president of the IPA. The IPA, initially formed by eight national companies in November 1999, has now thirteen companies in its fold. They are Alembic, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Cadila Healthcare, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Unichem Laboratories, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, USV, Lupin Laboratories, Wockhardt, and Matrix Laboratories.

Dilip G Shah selected as chairman of IGPA

Dilip G Shah, secretary General of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), has been chosen as the chairman of the International Generic Pharmaceutical Alliance (IGPA). He was selected for the top post during the Eighth Annual IGPA Conference held in St Julians, Malta. He succeeds Jim Keon, President of the Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association (CGPA), who completed his term of two years in the office.

It represents over 500 companies involved in the generic medicines and active ingredient industry.

Dr Haseltine appointed as chairman of Matrix Scientific Advisory Board

Matrix Laboratories Limited has appointed Dr William A Haseltine, an eminent scientist, as the chairman of Matrix Scientific Advisory Board (MSAB). Dr William A Haseltine, the founder of Human Genome Sciences Inc., the pioneer genomics biotechnology company, was the chairman and chief executive officer of Human Genome Sciences from 1993 to 2004. He is a Professor at The Scripps Research Institute.

US FDA appoints new director for office of drug safety

The US Food and Drug Administration selected Gerald J. Dal Pan as director, office of drug safety in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). Dal Pan, selected from a strong field of candidates as part of a nationwide search, will lead the agency's post-marketing drug safety programme.

Dr Mahendra Patel joins with Zydus Pharma (USA) Inc

Dr Mahendra Patel has joined the Board of Directors of Zydus Pharmaceuticals (USA) Inc. Dr Patel who has had 29 years of experience in the field of pharmaceuticals was the co-founder and partner of the US-based company, Invamed. Subsequently, Invamed was acquired by Novartis and Dr Patel joined Sandoz, an affiliate of Novartis, as the Chief Scientific Officer.

Kewal Handa appoin-ted as Pfizer MD

Kewal Handa has been appointed as the managing director of Pfizer India. He has been working as Company's finance director since 1996.

A post Graduate in commerce, he is a member and vice chairman of the pricing committee of OPPI. The post was vacant after Hocine Sidi Said resigned in March 2005.

Ramesh Kumar, IAS appointed as new Maharashtra FDA chief

M Ramesh Kumar will be the new commissioner of Food and Drug Administration, Maharashtra, replacing A. Ramakrishnan, the current commissioner. The new commissioner will take charge from the next week. Currently, Ramesh Kumar is the principal secretary of tribal development department, Government of Maharashtra.

Krishna Murthy appointed as new DG of BDMA

The Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association (BDMA) has appointed V Krishna Murthy as the new director general with effect from June 1, 2005. Krishna Murthy has experience in management of international business operations spanning in almost 80 countries with six joint ventures, seven overseas offices and four subsidiaries.

MN Ramamurthy appointed as Karnataka drugs controller

Karnataka Government has appointed MN Ramamurthy as drugs controller. He has replaced Ramakrishna Gandhi, who superannuated on June 30, 2005. Prior to becoming drugs controller, he was designated as deputy drugs controller.

Dr B Suresh, president, Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has been declared as the next Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPCA) president. The next venue for the 58th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) is Mumbai. The event is to take place in December 2006.
