Mid Valley Exhibition Centre at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is all set to host what is known as the biggest trade show in the South East Asia. The four-day gala of the leading players of the health care industry in the region is scheduled to start on April 21.

ABC Exhibitions of Malaysia has teamed up with Indian organiser Global Pharma Expo to bring together the twin mega shows-South-East Asian Healthcare Show and Asia Pharma Expo.

The South East Asian Healthcare Show has established itself in Kuala Lumpur for the past eight years as a dedicated trade event. Whereas, Asia Pharma Expo will be held for the first time in SE-Asia.

According to International Sales Director of ABC Exhibitions, Singh Bhullar, "The synergy generated by these twin shows, definitely benefits both exhibitors and visitors by providing a complete product profile under one roof."

Kuala Lumpur- Gateway to SE-Asia
Situated in the heart of South East Asia, with a vibrant economy, and a sophisticated English speaking business climate Kuala Lumpur is the ideal location for such a trade show, says Global Pharma Expo's CEO Paresh Jhurmurwala.

Besides, with an expanding 10 per cent growth in the pharmaceutical market, Malaysia presents the best opportunity for expansion into SE-Asia.

The total 254 pharma formulation units operating in the country works on an estimated annual turnover of US$ 790 million. Malaysia has become one of the first countries in the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASIAN) to gain the membership in Europe's Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) in January 2002. The recognition has enabled Malaysian pharma companies more easily to export their products to PIC/S members, mainly in the European Union.

Indian Industry, a major player
With Global Pharma having an Indian base, the strongest ever participation by India has come about, indicates Jhurmurwala. And after all, Indian industry over the past few years has shifted its focus towards its SE-Asian neighbours, especially Malaysia.

Bilateral trade between India and Malaysia amounted to some RM12 billion in 2003 with Indian exports reaching RM2.55 billion and imports from Malaysia at RM9.53 billion, he said.

Asia Pharma Expo
Consistently working towards building a global pharma society, Asia Pharma Expo has brought together a guild of manufacturers, pharma publishers, R&D analysts, associations and environmentalists over the years. The show has also helped in expanding knowledge, know-how technology and opportunities in the pharma sector.

After the success of the event in Bangladesh in year 2003, Asia Pharma Expo chooses Malaysia as its venue to target the South Asian-Market.
