The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Crime Branch has during last week arrested two men allegedly involved into sale of spurious lifesaving drugs. A huge quantity of lifesaving drugs was recovered from their possession. Acting on a tip-off that a gang into supply of spurious was active in the capital the EOW initiated investigations and zeroed in on one Kamal Sharma, a resident of Manasarovar Park in North-East Delhi.

The police sent a decoy customer to him to strike a deal. Kamal offered anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic drugs supposedly manufactured by a reputed company that has units in Haryana and Punjab. Subsequently, Kamal was arrested with four catrons of medicines containing 320 packs.

During interrogation, he disclosed that he got the supply from one O K Gupta of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. At his instance, a police team went to Meerut and arrested Gupta. He claimed that he had been receiving supplies from one of his accomplices who was manufacturing the drugs in his factory somewhere in Delhi-UP border.

The search of his house led to the recovery of 336 packs of suspected spurious anti-pyretic drug, each containing 10 strips of 10 tablets, and 134 empty boxes of the same drug. The police have sent samples of the seized drugs for a laboratory test to find out whether they are spurious.

The Drugs Control Department of Delhi has been informed and efforts are on to unearth the factory and nab other accomplices of the accused.
